I recall well lying on our living room floor, listening to that very same new Dylan album with you 30 years ago. Thanks for turning me on to it. I had continued to be in awe of his words and observations back then but must confess it resonates just a bit more with me now.
I consider a certain amount of talking about and considering death healthy and productive. It’s like how we come to understand or appreciate our home more as we spend time in other countries and understand our own language by studying another.
I realized recently that about 10% of my facebook “friends” are dead.
I'm only 70 but 2026 is apparently my swan song, all my decades of hard living are catching me up *much* faster than I expected but as you say : every day I / we wake up is another gift, not to be wasted .
I'm still riding my old BMW Motocycle, surely not as fast or well as I once did but I still get pleasure from having the breeze between my knees, when that stops away this and likely all my other old Motocycles will go .
Not getting upset about things I cannot change is one of the great gifts of being old .
All told I'd rather be 40 but I'm well pleased to have lived this long, who knows what'll happen next .
Last night was the annual "Lucas Prince Of Darkness Ride" by the Norton Club, eight people showed up (used to have 30 +) and only three vintage bikes, my battered old BMW was one of those, it ran flawlessly and I had a great time although after 50 + years of riding I no longer much like riding after sunset .
Last time I rode a real motorbike a Honda 350 was when I graduated college. I was standing on the seat on one leg like they did an easy rider. Then I had a couple of accidents and quit motorcycle riding. Still, one of my favorite things to do is to take a small motorbike out in the Asian countryside. Oh yeah.
The funny thing is : most Americans always chase after the biggest, fastest Motorbike they can get but I have discovered that riding slow bikes fast is more fun plus it teaches you to be a better rider .
I'm lucky in that I never really got over my love of Tiddlers, I have a very nice if worthless 1984 Honda CB125S single, 5 speed and made in Brazil, it'll reach 65 MPH on the flat if no wind so I _can_ ride it on the freeway now and then .
I keep it around so when I can no longer swing a leg over my full size Beemer I'll still have it to putter 'round town on .
I like the Honda 350 twins but most were thrashed to death decades ago .
